FAQ

Overhead Conveyor Questions

Short answers to what plant and project engineers ask us most when planning an EMS or power and free line.

What is the difference between an EMS conveyor and a power and free conveyor?

An EMS (electrified monorail system) uses individually driven carriers on a rail, so each carrier can change speed, stop and route on its own. A power and free conveyor uses a continuously running power chain that carriers engage and release, which gives low-cost accumulation and buffering on long lines.

Which industries use overhead conveyor systems?

Overhead conveyors are used in automotive body and assembly shops, paint and surface treatment lines, general manufacturing, appliance production, and warehousing and distribution centers.

What information is needed to quote an overhead conveyor project?

Send the plant layout, product size and weight, required throughput in units per hour, process stations, and any buffering or lift and lower requirements. Our engineers use these to propose a route, carrier design and control concept.

Can an overhead conveyor be added to an existing production line?

Yes. Overhead systems use space above the floor, so they are often retrofitted into existing plants. We survey the building structure and plan installation in phases to keep production running.
