Questions & Answers

Overhead Conveyor FAQ

What is an overhead conveyor?

An overhead conveyor moves products on carriers suspended from a track above the floor. It saves floor space and links processes such as assembly, painting and storage.

What is the difference between an EMS conveyor and a power and free conveyor?

An EMS conveyor uses individually driven carriers on an electrified rail. A power and free conveyor uses one continuous chain that pushes passive trolleys, which can stop and accumulate.

Which industries use overhead conveyor systems?

Automotive, general manufacturing, appliance production, surface treatment and painting, and warehousing and logistics.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Plant layout, product dimensions and weight, target output in jobs per hour, process stations and any buffering or lift and lower requirements.

How is conveyor speed calculated?

For a continuous line, conveyor speed equals carrier pitch divided by takt time. A 6 m pitch at a 120-second takt gives 3 m per minute.

Can an overhead conveyor be added to an existing production line?

Yes. Overhead systems use space above the floor and can often be retrofitted, with installation planned in phases to keep production running.

Can overhead conveyors run through paint ovens?

Power and free conveyors with suitable chain, trolleys and lubrication are widely used in curing ovens. EMS conveyors are normally kept out of high-temperature zones.

Do you provide installation and commissioning?

Yes. We provide installation or installation supervision, commissioning, ramp-up support and training.

Do you supply projects outside China?

Yes. We support projects worldwide, with on-site teams for installation and commissioning and remote support for diagnostics.

How do you integrate the conveyor with our MES?

The conveyor control exchanges order, tracking and production data with MES or SCADA systems through agreed interfaces.

What maintenance does an overhead conveyor need?

Regular inspection of carriers, wheels and switches, chain lubrication and elongation checks for power and free, and conductor rail checks for EMS.
